Governance that does not become a queue
Data governance earns its bad reputation when it is implemented as a request form. Analysts wait days for access, so they copy data into a spreadsheet, and the governed warehouse becomes a slower route to an answer than the ungoverned one. Control on paper, exposure in practice.
The alternative is to make the governed path the fastest one: catalogued data people can find themselves, access granted by role rather than by ticket, row and column security enforced in the platform, and sensitive fields masked by default so most analysis never touches raw personal data at all.
